The Community Coalition for Children™ is proud to announce the publication of Helping Children Thrive: A Handbook for Grassroots Regional Collaboration. After hearing from our nationally renowned speakers over the years that we are “the model” for community-wide efforts focused on children and that we “should write the book,” we decided that it was a fine way to celebrate our tenth anniversary.
The handbook not only shares policies, processes, and public relations publications, but it provides a compact disk for readers to manipulate the templates. The handbook gives strategies and checklists for event-planning, hints for effective publicity, and by-laws plus mission/goals/objectives. Fiscal decisions are also discussed to enable organizations to focus on what they are most passionate about, knowing that the organizational structure and logistics are thoroughly outlined.
Dr. Michael J. Bradley, author of Yes, Your Teen is Crazy! and the sequel, Yes, Your Parents are Crazy!, says about the handbook: “Every cop, every judge, every shrink will tell you that their power to help kids is miniscule compared to the incredible power that rises up out of concerned, active communities. Without that magic, little is possible. With it, nothing is impossible. I know about that awesome power because I’ve seen it first hand in the work of the Community Coalition for Children, the folks who’ve created this handbook. If magic can be packaged and replicated, then here it is.”
Helping Children Thrive is a collaborative endeavor itself. Cathy Bokoff (Norwich), one of the founding members of the Coalition, is the editor. Jeanne Sigel (New London), the graphic designer, has been the Coalition’s designer and sponsor for many years. The publisher is Lifescape Enterprises (Mystic), owned by Kathleen O’Beirne, and the printer is The Day Publishing (New London). While this is a regional effort, the target audience is nationwide, wherever people want to coalesce around an issue. The practical, effective, and efficient suggestions shared by the Community Coalition for Children™ are a gift to this nation.
