Catalyst Challenge

In 2016, the Community Coalition for Children established a new initiative, the Catalyst Challenge, designed to promote on-going community action by participants in their programs. The conference serves as a catalyst for new program ideas in participants’ communities. The Catalyst Challenge encourages all participants to take what they learn at the annual intergenerational conference, and form an action plan to bring that message to their own school and/or community.

The Catalyst Challenge:
  • encourages students, parents, and child-centered professionals to bring about change in their communities.
  • requires and challenges participants to develop and implement action plans throughout the year to carry the conference messages to their communities.
  • develops and implements practical strategies and programs.

Conference participants are "challenged" to take what they have learned back to their own community or school, enabling students, parents, and professionals to bring about positive change.  To be eligible for the Catalyst Challenge Award, a proposal and final project/action plan are required. In late spring/early summer, award winners will be announced and recognized at the Catalyst Award Ceremony attended by nominees, conference participants, and community members. The award will include some funding to provide ongoing support for the winning initiative and potential expansion to other sites.
